Healthy Arteries: Lycopene vs. Statins
A scientific study in China found that increasing the lycopene in the diet of rabbits can produce results roughly comparable to those of statin drugs in preventing the plaque in arteries that lead to atherosclerosis.
The blood levels of lycopene in the rabbits were approximately equal to the levels in humans who consume a diet high in lycopene.
Since numerous studies have shown that organic fruits and vegetables (especially tomatoes) are especially high in lycopene, this is a strong indication that organic produce has superior heart-healthy benefits.
