A Muscle Building Diet - The Top 3 Components
By Stephen "the Body" Jones
There are 3 major things that go into a diet for those
wishing to build muscles: protein, carbohydrates and water.
Here are a few ideas on how to arrange your diet to include
the most necessary building blocks for muscles.
As we all know, water is required for life and some do not
take into consideration the effects on the muscles it has. A
doctor would recommend for a healthy adult to drink at least
64 ounces of water a day. If a person were to exercise more
than a half hour daily, it would be suggested that a minimum
of another 16 ounces be taken in to replace the lost fluids
from exercise.
Carbohydrates are off limits in many diets. But if you are
trying to build up muscles, they are have an essential
function. For someone who has a 2,000 calorie a day diet,
half of this should be from carbohydrates. If your diet is
more than 2,000 calories a day, the carbohydrate intake has
to be elevated as well so the energy required for exercise
is available and the muscles can be built up.
Your carbohydrate intake should be from foods like fruit,
potatoes and vegetables, and avoid sources that include
added sugars like fruit juices and sports drinks. The added
sugars will offer short bursts of energy and also normally
add fat that the body does not need. Your healthy
carbohydrates should come from bread, green vegetables,
colorful fruits and almost any type of noodle or pasta.
Your last half of daily caloric intake should come from
proteins. Some foods that are considered the healthiest
means of getting your intake includes baked chicken or
turkey as well as salmon or tuna in water. Do not take in
any fried foods, since they offer additional fats that you
do not need and this could cause fatigue of the muscles.
Since muscles have to break down and then rebuild, each of
these 3 components are needed in a diet. They can be changed
as needed due to special diet requirements or medical
conditions. However, if you do have a medical condition it
is best to consult your doctor before starting any diet.

8 Ways To Lose Weight Fast
Here are some ways to lose weight fast.
1 - Take everything one step at a time. Begin simply by paying more attention to what you are eating, slowly cutting back on the bad foods and implementing more healthy foods into your diet. Once you have this under control, the next step is to add exercise to your plan. If you do not like exercising, take this one step at a time as well by implementing only 15 to 30 minutes at a time, at first.
2 - Choose foods and activities that you enjoy. If you do activities that you get enjoyment out of, you will find them to be much more successful than trying to exercise in ways that you do not enjoy. The same goes for foods that you implement in your diet: Choosing foods that you enjoy will help you enjoy your diet rather than craving bad foods.
3 - Build muscle. You lose calories based on your weight. Muscles, surprisingly enough, burn calories more quickly than fat does, pound for pound. Work out with weights to build muscle and lose weight, and then allow your extra lean muscle mass to burn more calories for you on a long term basis.
4 - Reduce your carbohydrates. Do not cut your carbohydrates out completely, because your body needs carbohydrates for energy. Cut out some of the white breads and pastas from your diet, though, to cut down on the carbohydrates that you consume. What carbs you do need to eat, you can replace with whole wheat and brown carbs for better health.
5 - Set realistic, measurable and attainable goals. Put deadlines on your goals, making them measurable. Make them realistic by choosing goals that you know you can attain. Set long term and short term goals and you will more readily achieve your expectations regarding quick and healthy weight loss.
6 - Give up the bad stuff. It may surprise you how unhealthy it is to eat candy, cookies, cakes and other sweets, and to drink soda and sugar laden drinks. Cut these bad goodies out either completely, or at least 80% of the time and the pounds will shrink away without you having to do much else to make the weight loss happen.
7 - Have a suitable breakfast. Most of your calories should be consumed early on in the day, and breakfast is no exception. Eat a nice breakfast to give your metabolism a good foundation to run from for the remainder of the day.
8 - Control portions by leaving something behind. Make sure your portions are correct based on the actual serving size of your food, and then make sure not to clear your plate completely. Exercising portion control will give you better control over what you put into your body for easy and achievable weight loss.
Implement these tips one by one and in no time at all you will begin to see a significant difference in your weight.

Less Calories, More Water
Drinking water with meals has always been a point of discussion in natural health care. We have learned, and educate others about water and how important it is for health. We also always have suggested to drink water before meals, not during meals, or an hour or so after meals. This caveat is realted to protecting digestive enzymes you need to help digest your food. We also encourage you to chew your food thoroughly, 20-50 times, to liquefy the food and put less stress on digestion.
This tip from 60 Second Science on Scientific American is good considering their focus on mainstream medical methods.

Water Before Meal Means Fewer Calories ConsumedPODCAST
Drinking 16 ounces of water before meals helped a group of dieters lose more weight than other dieters who didn't consume water first.
Americans, and American physicians, are concerned about ballooning waistlines and the accompanying health problems. Now, researchers have presented the first randomized trial of what they hail as a side-effect-free, prescription-free, and simply free appetite control agent. That is, of course, water. Brenda Davy, lead researcher from Virginia Tech, presented the findings at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society.
Previous studies showed that middle-aged and older Americans who drank two cups of water before a meal ate about 75 to 90 fewer calories over the course of the meal. For this study, the scientists took 48 adults between 55 and 75. All ate a low-calorie diet for 12 weeks. Half of the group drank 16 ounces of water before meals. The other half didn’t.
After the 12 weeks were over, the water drinkers lost on average 15.5 pounds, while the ones who weren’t prescribed water lost about 11 pounds. Davy says that this phenomenon could occur because water is filling and has, of course, zero calories. It could also be displacing other sweeter drinks that the dieters might consume. It’s not a cure-all, but it’s certainly a cheap and simple addition to any weight-loss plan.

A List Of High Fiber Foods
By Beth Hoover
Fiber is a critical part of the diet. Ironically your body
isn't able to digest fiber so it passes right through your
body. Fiber food is necessary because it keeps your colonic
tract healthy and keeps your body regular.
Put simply, its main job is to scrub your guts. Here is a
high fiber food listing to help you get started with your
healthy lifestyle! You may also need to know that fiber can
help you control your blood sugar and can even lower your
cholesterol. Oh and it also releases poisons from your body.
Almonds
Cashews
Flax seeds
Garbanzo beans, well cooked
Kidney beans, well cooked
Lentils, red cooked

Try to add fiber to your diet steadily so that your body has
time to adapt to the rise in fiber content. Fiber has also
been shown to help with a weight loss plan, nevertheless, be
certain to talk with your health practitioner prior to
beginning any diet regimen or if you have got any illness
that may require less fiber. This is the best way to make
sure you stay healthy, especially since your physician knows
tons about you.

Eating LESS Meat is the way to lose weight ? NOT!
When I saw this article circulating the airways and media venues, as well as the numerous tweets I received from the raw foodies and vegans I was laughing so hard my sides hurt.
Hard to say who paid for this room of alleged researchers to come up with the findings, but you really do have to question this.
When choosing your food plan there is quite a lot more that goes into selecting what is correct for you. Relying on mass media isn't always the best place to start.
I use a specific test that helps you learn what type of metabolism you have, based on twelve types. These types were developed 50 years ago based on solid nutrition research that preceded this method by another 30-40 years. And at that time research had "meat". It was based on solid scientific guidelines and it wasn't usually tainted.
Another approach I use is an old and proven food program that will re-balance your biochemistry.
Then I look at your personal nutritional deficiencies, in an approach I developed over many years in this work and with many people of differing backgrounds. I have a patent application pending.
Of course I defer to organic food, but I also provide information so you can select the healthiest food even when organic isn't available or you cannot afford it.
Some people can eat meat, some cannot. The same follows for vegetarianism and veganism, raw or cooked fanciers.
I also into consideration the issues of feed lots and mass production of meat, hormones, and antibiotics, as well as the type of feeding used in this wing of the food industry.
So you get a tailored plan, and you get educated. You'll receive support and get some balanced exercise information too.
Because I charge for this service I know that not everyone will take advantage of it, or any of the parts of it.
And ultimately because my work is based on education you might like to read the opinion of a trusted colleague on this latest babble.
TIP: One serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards, or as others may say, the size of the palm of your hand.
Sorry Dr Atkins

A different approach to weight loss
This is the first of three reports that we are releasing on our 90 Day Weight Loss Project here at The Oake Centre for natural health education.
Please feel free to contact us for more information and with any questions you may have.
Many people know that stress in a factor in weight gain. Stress of course can be from many sources including lifestyle, work, lack of exercise, sedentary work and lifestyle situations, food allergy, chronic illness, environmental toxins and many more concerns that might not always be identifiable.
With the approach we are investigating in this project, cause isn't the focus. While cause can be important the use of this different approach, we believe, makes it possible to focus on results, regardless of cause.
What is the Neuroliminal process -
Some years ago I joined a professional discussion group that was established by the Safe Harbor Project through its website.
Through this group I met one of the pioneers of orthomolecular medicine. Orthomolecular medicine is an approach that began as a non-drug treatment approach in mental health and psychiatry. During this time several other applications for health conditions such as cardiovascular disease were validated.
I recall reading many articles about orthomolecular approaches in the late 1960s when I was working in a psychiatric facility. It made much more sense to me but it wasn't very popular. Now the interest in other than drugs for health is catching on.
Would you be surprised to learn that most mental problems are caused by the stress of unsuspected allergens? It's true! Both EEG BF (Biofeedback) and NT (Neuroliminal Training) may help resolve this stress. This reaction is also called “inflammation” and now it is being noticed as very important in health.
Wanting to see for myself, but really to determine how this process could be of benefit to my clients and those who read my articles, subscribe to my newsletter, attend my educational programs and others I contacted the inventor and that's how this project began.
I've just completed the first month of the 90 day trial. I have to say that the reactions have been interesting. One thing I noticed early on was that I experienced a real craving for fat. This lasted about two days and since then I have noticed no real cravings for any particular food.
I also noticed that I did not need to eat as much, so smaller portions were as filling and satisfying as larger ones. This is important to me because I grew up in a family that has a heritage in the Deep South and loved to serve enough food for Cox's army. And they expected that you'd eat it.
However, over the last few years I learned through a simple home testing process I offer in my work that I had a very wide range of food allergies. I also was dealing with tremendous stress on a daily basis. No matter what approach I tried little seemed to change. Once things calmed down to a manageable and quiet roar, I sought out this program.
So far I haven't seen too much in the way of lost pounds, although I did get past a major obstacle and broke a weight barrier that even with a great fitness program did not seem to budge.
I seem to be less reactive now to foods when I test those on my allergy list. Usually if a food bothers me I itch behind my right ear or experience ringing sounds in my ears (tinnitus). Now I experience far fewer of these reactions.
Whether this is a positive outcome of the program or not, I notice better motivation for holding to the plan I set up in my fitness program.
Now as I am just starting in to phase 2, look for our next report in mid December.
The Neuroliminal process is easy to use. You'll need to have a CD player that has the repeat function. Just set this up so it plays while you sleep, and listen to the subliminal messaging. And no, it doesn't interfere with sleeping. In fact, I think my sleep has gotten better.
In this process, as with biofeedback, blood flow to the brain improves, especially as allergic reactions are removed, the Theta brain wave (T operates between 4 and 8 cycles per second. Theta is associated with intuition, and allows us to access our subconscious. It is activated during dream sleep and deep meditation states. Theta is also associated with healing and creative thinking.) is lowered and SMR (Sensorimotor Response or Low Beta Brainwave - B has the highest frequency, and the SMR brain wave is usually thought of between 12-15 Hz, with most people between 13-13.5. This is associated with our normal, everyday waking state. Beta helps in logical thinking, analysis, and active attention. Stress can throw the frequency to the higher ranges of beta.) is raised.
Safety is important in any approach to health and wellness. With NT, Dr. Bate found that the force that seems to inhibit and even frighten persons using Neuroliminal Training is the “Hawthorne Effect”. This effect is well known in science and education, teaching and training, and seems to be an unconscious effort to “protect” the mind from “unknown” dangers.
It's been discovered that sound can be used to elicit responses in the brain; the brain becomes "entrained", which means it starts to resonate at the same frequency as the sound. When this happens, it can change the brain wave patterns in your brain. Studies have shown that with continued use, sound therapy techniques can eventually “rewire” the brain to a more balanced state, with long lasting results. These results also have been reported to raise IQ in other studies.
Dr Bate tells me that using “ NT doesn't really raise IQ, but lowering allergy stress seems to clear thinking process.” At least that's what he thinks, and he adds that “ in school, ADD/ADHD kids actually get about a 15 point raise in the few that have been tested before and after” their using the NT process.
The majority of participants in prior studies reported results after the fourth or fifth weeks. In today's hurried world this may benefit overall health because it helps you slow down and become more patient.
DISCLAIMER: NT has a range of applications in addition to weight loss and allergy relief. These include PTSD, Depression, ADD and ADHD, Autism, Asperger's, Epilepsy, Insomnia, Schizophrenia and others.
Neither Neuroliminal Training nor EEG BF (aka Neurofeedback, NF) are "magic". There are NO instant "cures". The process may may take a month or more before any noticeable progress or improvement is seen. Both EEG BF and NT work to do the same thing (change brain waves), and both are slow. One night's sleep corresponds roughly to one half hour session of EEG BF. The primary difference is that Neuroliminal Training is inexpensive, much simpler and easier to do, and yet just as effective.
Neither Neuroliminal nor EEG BF (NF) solves 100% of all "brain problems". The "average" success rate for EEG BF (NF) clinics is about 85+%. Subliminal Training may be somewhat higher.
Progress is individual for both Neuroliminal Training or EEG BF (NF), as always, when dealing with human brains (conscious or unconscious). There are no dangerous or long lasting harmful side effects possible from Neuroliminal Brain Wave Training.
Please feel free to contact us for more information and with any questions you may have.

The program isn't expensive, order here,
and it comes with a money back guarantee.

Which Whey Protein Should You Use - Concentrate Or Isolate?
By Dr. Lorna Mistranski
Whey protein isolate and whey protein powder concentrate is
an inquiry very frequently asked. This question without a
doubt is one that has crossed the minds of many aspiring
weight lifters when staring at the shelves of various kinds
of whey protein powder available in the health food
supermarket.
Which whey protein should you be using; concentrate or
isolate?
The most imperative differentiation amid the two is that
Isolate is processed at deeper levels so that the fat and
lactose are removed. This more involved system provides a
higher quality of protein. The fact is that over 90% of whey
protein powder isolate is protein calculated by weight.
This is valuable as lesser levels of fat are a benefit for
the regular daily diet of bodybuilders and when whey is
utilized for the purpose of losing weight.
Decreased lactose levels are also a positive for individuals
who are lactose intolerant and can also diminish the chance
of that bloated feeling that can go along with some protein
supplements. There are some side effects to using whey
protein isolate nonetheless.
Although whey has a high protein ratio, isolate powder will
be a little higher in price. The procedure isolate goes
through to filter out the key compounds is significantly
more rigorous as it remove the components that are known as
alpha lactoglobulins and lactoferrins which is vital immune
boosters.
Whey concentrate has lesser protein available and the
protein content can range anywhere between 29% in upwards of
89% in some brands. Whey concentrate protein contains higher
levels of lactose so anyone who suffers from lactose
intolerance should to be very aware.
Concentrate however cost less so this can be a better
alternative depending on what your budget is. Whey
concentrate also is low in levels of cholesterol, which is
another benefit to consider for your diet.
Overall, dietary and medical conditions call for action to
be taken into consideration when choosing the kind of whey
protein powder you prefer.
Isolate whey powder may have the slight edge in regards to
the biological value (BV) and will make available to you
more value for your money if you are needing a higher
dosage per serving of whey protein.

YES, You Need Saturated Fat for Health
Ever notice that all the health promoting FAT SOLUBLE VITAMINS - A,D,E,K - are in the news because your health has been suffering, and weight gain is every one's concern, as you haven't had enough fat to absorb them over the last 20-30 years?

Worried About Your Waistline? Get More—Not Less—of This Saturated Fat
Health News By VRP Staff
If you’re trying to shrink your bulging waistline, you’ve probably been cutting fats—and especially those notoriously heart-harming saturated fats—from your diet every chance you get. But believe it or not, this is one piece of “common sense” you may want to reconsider.
As it turns out, recent research is flying in the face of that age-old wisdom…at least where one natural source of saturated fat is concerned.
A new study examined the effects of coconut oil supplementation on women with abdominal obesity—that is, a waist circumference greater than 34 ½ inches—one of the leading risk factors in both heart disease and diabetes. Researchers followed 40 subjects between the ages of 20 and 40—half receiving 30 mL of coconut oil per day and half receiving 30 mL of soybean oil—over the course of 12-weeks.1
The study participants were instructed to follow a balanced low-calorie diet and to walk for 50 minutes per day. Lipid levels—including total cholesterol and HDL/LDL cholesterol ratios—were evaluated at both the beginning and end of the trial.
After 12 weeks, results showed that carbohydrate and overall caloric intake—as well as body mass index (BMI) measurements—decreased in both groups. But only the subjects taking coconut oil ended up with smaller waistlines—not to mention increased HDL (that is, “good” cholesterol) levels and an improved LDL to HDL ratio.
The patients taking soybean oil, on the other hand, weren’t so lucky. Not only did the total cholesterol levels increase in this group, but LDL (“bad” cholesterol) levels did as well. Health-boosting levels of HDL, however, did drop—resulting in a higher LDL to HDL ratio, and the increased heart risk that comes with it.
The study authors’ conclusion? Saturated fat or not, coconut oil doesn’t negatively impact your cholesterol levels. It does, however, appear to fight belly fat… a benefit that reaches well beyond a closet full of smaller clothes.
Organic, Virgin Coconut Oil provides a minimally processed product that offers a light coconut taste and facilitates the assimilation of fat-soluble vitamins derived from foods and dietary supplements.

How To Choose The Best Weight Management Product For You
By Michael Skatoli
Weight management and weight loss products and programs have
grown into a burgeoning industry in the last number of years
and it is only getting bigger. The big problem is that there
are such a large number of weight management products for
sale, all promising quick results, that it is difficult to
figure out which ones may be most suitable for you.
It is thought that up to $55bn is spent on weight loss
products and weight loss programs in the US each year. The
range of weight loss products available is quite staggering.
They range from pills, ointments, diet supplements, fitness
machines, CDs, creams and rings to clothes and books.
Certainly, many of these products will be genuinely
beneficial, while others will not. The trick is finding the
right ones.
We all would prefer a quick and easy fix when it comes to
shedding those pounds. A lot of supplements will guarantee
dramatic effects with little or no healthy eating or
exercise. It is questionable whether these will really
deliver results, and if they do they might be dangerous to
your health.
That said, there are numerous genuinely helpful supplements
out there that, with the aid of the right diet and regular
exercise, will help you achieve your weight loss goals. A
good way to begin is to check out which supplements are
approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). There
are a lot of fully approved widely available products that
will help in your fight against weight gain.
It is also helpful to consult your GP. There are a lot of
prescription weight loss drugs which, with the correct
supervision, can help you attain your goals.
That said, if possible, it may be advisable to avoid
supplements and drugs completely and lose weight the healthy
and natural way - namely by eating well and getting plenty
of exercise. This method might take more effort and
willpower, but it is more sustainable and satisfying in the
long term.
It is safe to say that there are a plethora of weight loss
products to help you if you choose to go down this path.
Fitness machines, stair masters or cycling machines are a
good way to begin. On the other hand, if you are feeling a
little more adventurous, you could invest in some jogging
gear and hit the streets.
Also, a visit to your local bookstore or Amazon may be a
good start. Self-help books may not be for everyone but a
good one might help motivate you and help you set your mind
on the task of losing weight. Investigate what the most
popular books on weight loss are these days, and pick up a
few healthy eating CDs while you're at it.
The right weight loss products for you will depend on your
personality, your preferences, your aims and a number of
other factors. Visit your GP and try to find a game plan
that works for you and then choose what weight loss products
you require.

What Are The Benefits of Healthy Snacks & What Are The Best Foods To Eat?
The truth about healthy snacks for weight loss is that they
are vital to eat during the day. Research has discovered
that people who do not snack consume more food at mealtimes.
People who do not snack end up consuming more fat and
calories than those people who do snack between mealtimes.
People still wonder though what the benefits are to healthy
snacking and what kinds of foods are actually considered
'healthy.'
The most beneficial thing to healthy snack eating is that
you do not binge later on foods that are unhealthy to curb
your hunger. If you are suffering from a growling stomach or
hunger pangs, then you should snack now versus waiting for
the next mealtime. Hunger management through the day is
important not only for proper eating but also for
maintenance of blood sugar levels. So, how and when should
you consume your snacks?
So what types of foods are included in the healthy snacks
category? Whole grain foods are a good choice because of the
fiber content in them that gives you that needed energy to
last until a full meal. Some great options for this are
whole grain crackers and whole grain pretzels. These and
other healthy selections can be found in the organic snacks
section in your local grocer.
Other obvious choices of healthy snacks for weight loss are
fruits and vegetables. They are low in calorie, fat free,
and are loaded with all the vitamins and minerals that the
body needs. A word of warning, though; if you decide to have
some salad for snacks, go easy on the salad dressing.
Another great snack are nuts and seeds. They are full of
protein but are high in calories, so do not consume too many
of them in one sitting.
You can also snack on foods which are rich in calcium but
low in fat while waiting for dinner. These include light
yogurt and cheese which was processed with skim milk.
What times are the best times for these snacks? On the
average, most people have breakfast at around 8 am and in
this case, a 10:30 am snack should keep you going until a
1:00 pm lunchtime. Afternoon snacks are usually eaten around
3:30 pm, and then it's dinner time at 6:00 or 6:30 pm. This
sample schedule shows that the ideal healthy snack is eaten
within 2-3 hours before and after a meal. This would allow
you to eat smaller and healthier, while keeping you full
enough to go about your daily activities.
Healthy snacks are important in your goal of losing weight.
People who do not snack end up hungry and frustrated when
meal time comes around and then they forget about all
intention of losing weight, eating fatty foods that do
nothing for their health. This habit does not also bode
well for the blood sugar and could complicate even further
when symptoms of emotional and physical stress manifest
themselves. It may not sound correct when you say that
snacking is good for losing weight, but this is the truth.
Not only will you end up consuming less calories, it will
also help you concentrate on what you have to do instead of
warding off the hunger pangs.
By keeping yourself focused on the end goal, you'll end up
thinner and healthier. Healthy snacks for weight loss are
the way to go.

How Body Type Can Affect Your Body Building Success

By Kyle Peters
Bodybuilding can be a difficult sport at the best of times
but one way to improve your chances of success is to know
your body type. Knowing this will tell you how you are going
to respond to the weight training and exercise program and
allow any modifications necessary to increase your success.
Often it can be just a simple process of looking in a mirror
and studying your features to determine your type.
If you are tall and skinny then this would often mean you
would be classified in the group known as endomorphs. These
are classically hard gainers and if you fall into this group
and have already started a training program you will know
that no matter what you do, it is difficult to put on any
weight or muscle.
The major advantage of being in this group is that although
you may find it difficult to put on muscle it will also be
difficult to put on fat. What this means to you is that when
you do put on muscle mass it will be without a gain in fat
tissue which will leave you looking very ripped. In fact you
would not have to put on as much muscle to look bigger and
toned as you will have superb definition.
The next group are typically shorter, squat, heavier and are
naturally more muscular. These are commonly known as the
mesomorphs. Often they will claim to be able to put on
muscle just by looking at a set of weights!
For those with a mesomorphic physique then usually a less
intense workout program is required. The biggest hurdle to
face though is the issue of fat gain. As well as muscle,
these types can also easily put on fat. It is vital to
increase the proportion of protein intake in the daily
calories to try and overcome this.
The ideal amount of daily intake of protein for endomorphs
is around 2g per kilogram of body weight. It is also
important to increase general calorie intake to stimulate an
anabolic state.
Excellent gains can be achieved by both body types but those
with ectomorphic bodies will have to work harder in the gym
to stimulate muscle growth and will also have to increase
calorie intake. With mesomorphs it is important to be
careful about increasing fat levels and often, many will
find they end up cycling between bulking up and losing fat.

10 Real World Diet Tips That You Can Use
Are you tired of diet tips handed out by someone with apparently unlimited income and time? For some of us, it may just not be practical to spend half of our Sunday preparing carefully portioned meals for the rest of the week, or financially feasible to buy all our meals prepackaged in just the right portions. And there are those of us who cringe at the thought of weighing food to achieve 'optimal portion sizes'. Here are ten real life diet tips for the rest of us.
1. Eating out? Restaurant portions tend to be enormous, and if it's on the plate, we tend to eat it. If it's possible, order from the kid’s menu, where portions are more reasonably sized.
2. Keep healthy snacks around and easily accessible. A bowl of fruit on the kitchen table, a container of celery or carrot sticks in the refrigerator, or a couple of pop-open cans of fruit salad in your desk at work will help you grab for something healthy when those first hunger pains begin. In other words, you'll be more likely to grab something low-calorie and good for you if it's easy to eat.
3. Substitute frozen vegetables for canned. Canned veggies tend to be high in sodium, which you don't need, and low in real nutrition, which you do. Buy economy size bags with zip closures to make it easy to pour out a single serving for a meal.
4. Buy a vegetable steamer. Steaming is one of the healthiest ways to cook vegetables. The food retains nearly all of its natural nutrients instead of leaching it out into the cooking water. Even better, it makes your veggies taste great - which means you'll be more likely to eat them instead of filling up on fatty foods that pack on weight.
5. Never eat standing up. One of the easiest ways to sabotage your diet is to 'eat without thinking'. Treat eating with the respect that it deserves. Fix yourself a plate. Sit down and eat properly. You'll be less likely to just pop food into your mouth without paying attention.
6. Spread your meals out. When you eat three meals a day, your body tends to store whatever it doesn't need right that moment. By adopting a 'grazing' habit, you'll keep your metabolism working throughout the day. Have a small breakfast, a piece of fruit with crackers or toast at mid-morning, a light lunch and an 'after school snack' mid-afternoon. Just remember that you're breaking up the same amount of food into smaller meals, not ADDING more food into your daily diet.
7. Grab a fruit juice or flavored water instead of soda. Soda is nothing but empty calories. No nutrients, lots of sugar. Instead, grab a bottle of 100% fruit juice, or water flavored with a spritz of fruit.
8. Drink water. Even the FDA recommends at least 8 full 8 ounce glasses of water a day to keep your body working right. When you're dieting, you should drink even more. It's not just that full feeling - water helps your body digest foods properly and cleans out your system.
9. Can't afford a gym membership? Make a pact with friends to exercise together. Make a date at least three times a week to play volleyball, take a walk or spend half an hour doing something active.
10. Skip the potato chips. Fatty snacks fried in hydrogenated oil like potato chips contribute fat and calories and not much else. Instead, grab a handful of dried fruit or a cup of yogurt for the same amount of calories and a lot more nutritional benefits.

How To Lose Weight Without Starving
By Travis Van Slooten
This isn't some kind of smoking mirrors gimmick or the
latest spin from a money-making junk mail expert. It really
is possible for you to drop excess pounds without the need
to follow a restricted diet.
It doesn't mean however that you also have the liberty to
indulge in whatever food you want. So let's get down to
business and talk about how you can get the pounds off
without having to starve yourself.
Even if you are trying to lose some weight, you still need
to eat. Rather than starve yourself what you need to do is
to learn to recognize the signals that your body gives out
when it's actually hungry. The skill of getting your eating
habits under control is where the magic of weight loss
really lies.
There are three different categories that individuals can
fall into when it comes to eating patterns. Which one do you
fit into? Identify it and you'll find your weight issues are
much easier to understand.
You eat when:
You're hungry?
If you are, then good for you. However, you should also be
able to recognize the signs of satisfaction that your body
sends. Knowing when to eat and then when to stop is key to
developing healthy eating habits and subsequently, weight
loss. Even if you don't have any limit to the type of foods
you eat, as long as you just take in enough food that the
body can burn, there's no reason why you should keep on
packing the pounds. Add a few minutes of exercise into your
daily routine and watch the pounds go away.
You think you want to eat
This type of eater is one who is more likely to gain weight
than losing it. For those hoping or needing to achieve
weight loss, eating just for the enjoyment of it or whenever
there is good food to be had should be a big no-no. The
desire to eat may always be there and can be triggered
easily by different factors including stress, inactivity,
loneliness, the sight of delicious food, and other
activities. And because the body did not signal that it
needed the food, your unused intake will only be converted
to excess body fat.
Your diet tells you to?
Some individuals are on the perennial diet. And while one
may be able to maintain the ideal weight using that
strategy, being constantly on a diet doesn't make for a
healthy lifestyle. Individuals who fall under this category
may constantly feel deprived. And even if he is eating the
right foods, there is little enjoyment to it. What's worse
is that he may feel the need to stay away from social
gatherings with family and friends to avoid the temptation
of foods that are "forbidden." Weight loss shouldn't come at
such expense.
Which group do you mainly fall into? If you're in group 1,
then you're doing great. If you're in group 2 or 3, then you
must consider what you can do to change your eating habits.
Start to listen to your body and know what a hunger pang
feels like. That's the signal that's time to eat. If you can
master this, and the ability to stop eating when you know
your body is satisfied, then you will discover the true
magic of weight loss!

Want To Get Rid Of Your Belly Fat? 3 Effective Solutions
By Tanapon Laohaniwatworn
Trying to burn belly fat fast is not a tough thing to do,
though it can seem that way if you are trying to go about it
the wrong way. This article will show you some simple ways
you can start to burn belly fat without jumping on the next
crazy diet bandwagon or using an infomercial gimmick that
promises easy results in just "6 minutes per day".
Tip 1 - Avoid "quick fix" diets that promise overnight
results.
There are a lot of different "quick fixes", but what you
really want to avoid is using a "crash diet." A crash diet
essentially means that you try to starve yourself by
purposely eating as little as possible in hopes it will help
you burn fat. For example, many people try to eat only one
meal a day and try to maintain this as a lifestyle. A crash
diet will only cause you more grief than results. It will
put your body into starvation mode and crash your
metabolism. You may lose some belly fat but in the long run
your metabolism will slow down and you will lose muscle
mass. This makes it even harder to burn belly fat.
Don't use a crash diet. Try to eat 5-6 smaller meals in a
day. This will keep you full, and will prevent spikes in
your blood sugar. Eating high quality protein (such as
chicken, turkey, fish, tuna, etc) will help you lose your
belly fat as these foods take a lot of energy to digest.
Vitamin rich foods packed with minerals and high nutritional
value such as fruits and vegetables will help you lose your
belly fat because they are not very calorie dense. This
means you can eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and not
consume as many calories as you would eating processed food.
This helps you burn belly fat and do it fast because you are
essentially eating more food but consuming fewer calories.
Tip 2 - Really push yourself when you workout!
If you do intense workouts as opposed to workouts where you
never really push yourself, then you will be on the right
track to burn belly fat fast. Pushing yourself hard when you
workout gets your metabolism going and it will keep it
elevated so you keep burning calories long after you are
finished working out.
The trick is to push your self hard for short periods of
time. Not for a long, extended workout.
Try the following exercises and read the instructions below.
You will feel a huge difference between the intensity of
this vs. your old workouts.
12 body weight squats
15 dumbbell swings
12 push ups
Do this series of exercises and do as many rounds as you can
in 10 minutes. You will feel how intense this workout is if
you do this!
Tip 3 - Instead of doing long, slow cardio, try doing
intervals.
Interval training will help you burn belly fat fast because
it will help boost your metabolism for hours after you are
done working out. High intensity interval training switches
back and forth from high and low intensities, so you are
still pushing your self out of your comfort zone for short,
quick bursts.
Since you alternate between these intensities in a very
meticulous way, you will find yourself working much harder
than before. 20 minutes of interval training often feels
like 60 minutes of normal, same speed cardio!
Tanapon Laohaniwatworn will give you the gut honest truth
about weight loss and the best and worst ways to go about
shedding those extra pounds. If you are anxious about
burning of those dreaded pounds learn about the extreme
benefits and side effects of

Ab Machines - Do They Actually Work?
By Tom Leverson
One of the frequent questions I often get asked is, do the
ab cruncher exercise machines you often see on television
actually work? Yes and no is the answer to that question. I
know this is not particularly useful but let me explain.
These machines exercise the different layers of ab muscles.
The idea is that these machines will stimulate the abs muscles
to enlarge. However, they will not necessarily give you a set
of rippling, muscular, lean abs. The reason being is that to
get a set of ripped abs you will need to get rid of that layer
of fat tissue that overlays the abs.
Ab crunchers will not normally remove the fat focally over
the abs. Performing hundreds or thousands of sit ups will
not get rid of this layer of fat tissue for the exact same
reason. The only way to do this is by lowering calorie
intake and burning excess calories, therefore reducing fat
content all over the body.
Adding an aerobic exercise regime to your exercise program
is the most effective way to burn off these calories. Also,
exercises that use the big muscles of the body such as the
quadriceps are great at burning calories.
The quadriceps are the big thigh muscles located at the
upper part of the legs. A good exercise to stimulate the
quads is squats. Due to the fact that they produce so much
heat and burn a large amount of calories means they are
great to help weight loss. They also stimulate the body's
natural growth hormone production therefore encouraging
muscle growth which is good for building those abdominal
muscles.
The most common aerobic exercises are rowing, running,
swimming and cycling. For burning fat it is best to do these
exercises over a long period of time.
Used on their own these machines won't get you a set of
visible rippling abs. You have to do fat busting exercises
as well. Great ab development can be had in as soon as
twelve weeks if you apply this advice consistently.

6 Essentials To Find The Best Home Exercise Equipment
By Thong M. Dao
Purchasing the best home exercise equipment isn't as simple
as you may believe. Indeed, you have to think about it a lot.
Here are a few essential elements to think of while making a
decision.
1. What's your goal?. Choosing the right type of equipment
and deciding how much you'll spend relies heavily on what you
want to achieve and your fitness level. So before jumping to
conclusion, ask yourself what you want to gain:
cardiovascular health, strength, energy, or what. Answering
those questions will help you pick the best equipment for
you.
2. What's your budget?. You need to decide how much to spend
on your equipment. The costs vary. An elliptical trainer
costs anywhere from $2000 to $5000, a treadmill from $1500
to $3500, a stationary bike from $500 to $1000. Remember
"you get what you pay for", so consider everything:
features, affordability and usability.
3. Space. Apart from your target and budget, the two other
evenly critical things to think of whenever buying workout
equipment are: to examine it and to measure the size. Whilst
the first is fairly automatic, the second is frequently left
out, merely because if you're at the store, it's difficult
to say if the best home exercise equipment can actually fit
into your free space. Therefore look at the space necessary
for the equipment. (It applies whether you've a home
gymnasium room or only a little space in the living-room.)
4. Have a look around. Inspect a different store and compare
to find out the best home exercise equipment. You had better
also do research on the Net to be educated of the product
you wish to purchase. Find out product reviews where you can.
5. Don't be deceived. Folks can do everything to make sales.
Therefore when you watch television adverts stating that you
are able to drop a few inches off your waistline or drop off
a few pounds after a week, do not fall prey. Yeah, these
seem too good to be true, and they are. Quick-fixes with
"before" and "after" testimonies could be appealing, however
remember that bodies don't change radically after some
sessions. Since if it does, everybody who wants to have
six-pack abs or who would like to drop off pounds after
pounds of fat must be satisfied right away.
6. Investigate all the cost. Installation, transportation,
and added charges are frequently neglected. So be sure you
know all the cost and are willing to pay off the final
amount for your best home exercise equipment.

Lose Weight Fast - 3 Crucial Things You Should Know
By Chloe Bishop
Most people nowadays are looking for fast and easy ways to
lose weight. We long to have lean, toned and attractive
physique and yet we are not willing to work for it.
This overwhelming demand for easy ways to lose weight fast
is exactly what's fueling the scams that many diet and
weight loss companies are perpetuating.
Do these sound familiar:
"Simply peel and stick to burn fat and lose weight!" (ad
selling diet patches)
"This product will change your body in 4 minutes a day!"
"Forget about long, difficult exercises! We have a range of
treatments and surgeries to make you lose weight..."
"Take this pill, go to bed... wake up skinny! It's magic!"
If you really think about it - can you honestly believe
their promises are true?
Out of desperation, many people actually buy into these
fantasies of a quick, easy, and miraculous physical
transformation.
Sure they are just doing their jobs - but don't you think
you deserve to make a well-informed and educated purchasing
decision?
They say when it sounds too good to be true, then it
probably is. So before you fall for any of the hype again,
remember these 3 things being kept from you by most
marketers of quick fix weight loss solutions:
1. "Weight loss" is not necessarily beneficial.
Most (if not all) body wraps, slimming teas, and toning
creams work mainly by eliminating water from your body.
Losing water changes nothing about how much body fat you
have. Remember that your body is 75% water. It's sick that
their strategy for making you lose weight is by dehydrating
you.
But you gotta hand it to them - dehydration IS an easy way
to lose weight fast! Clever, indeed.
Losing weight by dehydrating yourself is obviously
ineffective, and the weight loss effect hardly lasts.
Buying these miracle cures is just like patching up a hole
on your shirt - it may patch up the hole, but it doesn't
make you look good nor solve the problem.
2. Starving yourself actually makes you fatter!
Another "easy ways to lose weight fast" solutions are pills
and potions designed to make you lose appetite. An extremely
low-calorie diet can work in the short term, but over a
prolonged period of time, our body's starvation response
mechanism kicks in, ultimately causing our bodies to hoard
fat.
When you starve yourself, you may lose weight at the start
due to the big calorie deficit, but eventually your body
thinks it's starving to death so it switches to survival
mode. When this happens, it burns off your muscles for fuel,
conserves energy by decreasing your metabolism and - horror
of horrors - keeps your body fat.
Is that what you really want?
3. Many quick fix solutions don't work for the long-term.
Of course, when you DO lose weight through bogus means and
by using ineffective products, in order to keep losing
weight you're made to think you have to keep consuming their
products. And that's exactly what marketers and vendors are
training you to do: to keep buying their stuff!
Considering this reason alone, you may want to ask yourself
if it's really worth it.
Conclusion
The problem with weight loss is that losing weight could
mean just losing water or muscle. So instead of having
weight loss as your goal, aim for fat loss instead.
An truly effective fat loss program includes the right
combination of personalized nutrition, exercise and mental
training.
Using natural methods, you may need to pay a higher price
with your sweat and resilience to see results, but the
benefits are worth it.
The truth is that there are no magical and miraculous
solutions that can instantly give us the body we want. If
there are, then why is obesity a continuously growing
problem?
Recommendation
Many people fail to lose fat effectively because they don't
know what to do or how to do it. I say that the best way to
to find out what works for you is by educating yourself
using reliable sources and applying the principles you've
learned.
The best resource I've found about fat-burning and muscle
building is Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle
program.
I myself have used Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle, and while
the results had been remarkable (I reached my target of 15%
body fat within 84 days), what really worked for me was the
whole process of how I succeeded. When I read Burn the Fat,
I finally 'got' it, and from then on I was unstoppable. I
had everything I needed to make it work: the motivation, the
knowledge, and a proven way to find my very own fat loss
formula.

7 Tips On How To Easily Lose Weight And Get Fit
You might end up thinking, "That could not probably make enough of a difference. And I'd feel silly doing it." First, the longest journey starts with a single step. And second, would you rather feel stupid being fat and unfit or doing something about it? I thought so. Here are 7 tips to change your life.
Diet Tip 1 : Move. Twiddle your thumbs. Squeeze one of those little exercise balls while you watch television to burn energy and tone your arms at the same time. Take that more distant parking spot. Even if you have physical restrictions, you can tailor a program to your requirements. Move whatever you can, whenever and wherever you can. And just think - laughing is good exercise. It’s like jogging on the inside.
Diet Tip 2 : Portions and Proportions. Concentrate on portion sizes according to the eating plan you select. Use a smaller size plate – don’t supersize it! Use some of the simple guidelines like “3 oz. of protein is about the size of your palm or a deck of playing cards” or “one serving of rice is the size of a tennis ball”.
Diet Tip 3 : Substitute low calorie Density Foods for High. Select foods with low cal density foods that have less calories relative to their weight. If you decrease the energy density of your diet, caloric intake will decline, says Barbara Rolls, professor of nutritive sciences at Pennsylvania State School and co-writer together with Robert Barnett of The Volumetrics Eating Plan. Foods like fruit and vegetables and salad greens and broth. The magic ingredient these foods possess is water! Water has zero calories, so the more volume represented by water, the less room there is for calories. Water also creates a feeling of fullness, helping one to eat less.
Diet Tip 4 : Be conscious of What You Eat. Keep a food diary and be honest, because no one but you is going to see it. Don't forget the spoon that you licked while putting away the left-overs or the sampling ( s ) you had while changing the seasoning. It will help you determine your eating habits. Keep it long enough and patterns begin to appear.
Diet Tip 5 : Eat More Slowly. This allows your body the several minutes it takes to signal your brain that it is full.
Diet Tip six : Try New herbs and spices in the place of Butter and Salt. When food tastes different or more flavorsome, we have a tendency to savor it more and eat slower.
Diet Tip 7: Add Variety. Along the same lines, The American Dietetic Association recommends increasing variety. Often adding a single new food to your diet can end boredom and increase nutrition.
Do you have any tips you feel should be added to the above that you have successfully applied to change your health?

10 Ways To Increase Your Potassium Intake
By Daniel Jackson
Many people wonder why potassium is so important. The fact
is that your body would suffer terribly if you were to ever
have a deficiency. The first to suffer would be your heart,
it simply cannot function without it. A lack of potassium
would damage your cellular process and make you feel really
weak. Try not to ever get to the point of a potassium
shortage.
With the importance of potassium out of the way, lets get
down to how best to increase your intake.
1. Nuts and seeds have very high concentration of potassium
so eat as much nuts as you can, that should give you a good
dose to last you for the day.
2. If eating nuts is an issue then your next best bet would
be to eat a bowl of cereal which is high in potassium such
as bran flakes. While it might not seem palatable it does
work.
3. Eat some muesli and you won't have to eat the nuts or
seeds and you can definitely avoid the bran flakes.
4. Between breakfast and/or lunch, have a handful of dried
fruits. They are very high in potassium.
5. You can also mix dried fruits into a food of your choice
such as a salad where something sweet wont be noticed too
much.
6. Do you like raisins? If you do that's great news as they
are very high in potassium content and could be another
source.
7. Do you like baked potatoes? Then you're in luck, they are
very high in potassium content and a single baked potato
will go a long way in terms of your daily intake. This does
not mean that you should be mixing it with anything else like
sour cream or cheese etc. Just the baked potato.
8. This might taste a bit unusual but the Cuban delicacy of
boiled plantains is a great source of potassium.
9. Whole wheat pasta and tomatoes are another great source
of potassium.
10. If you like sardines then that's yet another option.
Feeling motivated to increase your potassium intake?
Considering that twenty percent of Americans have
acute potassium deficiency and we all know where that can
lead to. Make the change today and get healthy.
