Justice Ginsburg, Randy Pausch, and others

A news report this morning relaying the dismal statistics about pancreatic cancer survival identified that it is the 4th cause of death of all cancer today.

The report included all the issues of mainstream treatment such as surgical removal of tumours, chemotherapy and radiation.

As the reporter added about the colon cancer Justice Ginsburg recovered from not so long ago, one has to wonder what effect that chemo and/or radiation had on her recent situation.

What this reporter failed to include in her story is a cancer treatment developed for pancreatic and liver cancer about 50 years ago. This more natural approach seems to offer an 83 per cent cure rate according to the most recent study.

This is a far sight greater than the 10 percent chance of cure offered by current allopathic methods.

And, by the way, is any one asking what might be the cause this rash of pancreatic cancer cases? Is it the food, is it cancer treatment, is is wheat allergy or just what is the stimulating factor? Or perhaps I should ask just where is a good epidemiologist with an inquiring mind.

Water Or Coke?

This I got from a very cool site: thatwasfunny.com As you can fathom
from the title this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but I dare say, some of
this is true. What do you think?

WATER

1. We all know that water is important but I’ve never seen it written down like this before.

2. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population)

3. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

4. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.

5. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U- Washington study.

6. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

7. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

8. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

9. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

COKE

1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for one hour, then flush clean The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of
Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, Remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

For Your Info:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its Ph is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of WATER
or COKE ?

Lean Muscle Gains And Muscle Pumps - Why Pumps Won't Help You Gain Muscle

For those of you who have been working out for more than a little while you know that a pump feels great. For those of you who are relatively new to weight training, a pump is that fuzzy feeling you get as blood engorges your muscle tissue as a result of weight lifting. The muscles being exercised will grow in size and tightness.

To be clear, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with a pump and more often than not a pump is a natural consequence of resistance training. But a muscle pump is not a good barometer of the effectiveness of a workout and believing so could actually be a costly error. Having easily spent thousands of hours in the gym, I have often heard other weight lifters raving about the crazy muscle pumps they experience as they share their personal methodology for achieving such pumps.

Simply put, a pump is the result of excess blood circulating in and around the muscle fibers.

Building serious muscle mass and incredible strength means training very intensely on every workout routine and set. In addition, you need to practice something called "progressive overloading" so that you improve from week to week. Progressive overloading is a fancy term that simply means doing more reps with a given weight than you did the previous time.

If you religiously do these two things then your muscle mass and strength will naturally increase at a speed that you probably never thought possible. Pumps are great but they likely won't help achieve the muscle mass you desire. Focus on intense workouts and gradually increasing your reps and you will get ripped before you know it.

Dear Mrs Pelosi

Hey, Nancy,

Instead of giving out bogus job loss figures how about hitting the nail on the head and say that all the job loss spiral over the past 10 years or so comes from Mr Bill who brought us GATT and NAFTA?

Low Sex Drive, poor quality of life?

On January 27 I posted an article by Carolyn Dean MD, ND about medical codes and insurance billing. I'd read the article when it was first published and had a copy of it in my archives. I hope many of you were able to listen to Dr. Dean discuss this issue with Jeff Rense on his program.

I started laughing when I read the following article because I didn't have to get any further than the first sentence to see the focus of the article: A new DSM category and a new CPT billing code. Now all we need to do is wait for some drug company to come along and bring us a new drug that will have so many side effects it will cause some one to suffer terrible side effects.

And then there will be the insipid TV ads to go along with the effort to condition everyone in the baby boomer or younger group to start to believe the answer to sex drive is in their little pill. I wonder if the profit ratio and margins are already calculated.

This picture isn't too much more than a re-run of PMDD so there was an excuse to get you on Prozac or some other SSRI to lead you down the slippery slope of suicide, homicide or osteoporosis.

Where's the beef in this picture? (cynic that I am) Referring to a good whole food diet, and a few vitamins or herbs that will get you straightened out with no long term side effects.

I have to admit when I read this article this article my mind went directly to last night's NPR program awarding George Carlin the Kennedy Center Twain Award and a later story on Petey Greene with a young Howard Stern in the hot seat.

For those of you that don't understand abstract thinking, apparently like the several people who have been verbally attacking me and this blog in the last week or so, this means that it's all in the rhetoric.

And boy do the drug and insurance company script writers have a corner on this market.

Women's low sex drive tied to poor quality of life Wed Feb 4, 2009
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Postmenopausal women who have hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) - a low level of sexual desire -- have a worse health-related quality of life than their counterparts who are happy with their sex lives, according to a new study.

In fact, the researchers say, HSDD can cause in impairments in well-being on par with those seen in chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis and asthma.

HSDD, the "persistent lack of sexual desire causing 'marked stress or interpersonal difficulties,'" is included in the Fourth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which lists and defines mental illnesses widely accepted by the psychiatric establishment.

But questions remain about whether HSDD is a real problem for women or "represents a disorder that has become 'medicalised' because of its pharmaceutical market potential,'" Dr. Andrea K. Biddle of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and colleagues write in Value of Health, a journal published by the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research.

One member of Biddle's research team works for Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, Inc., which also funded the research and provided consultation for the survey. Procter & Gamble makes a testosterone patch, Intrinsa, which is approved for treating HSDD in Europe. A U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel voted against approving Intrinsa in December 2004, citing lack of evidence for its long-term safety.

In the current study, Biddle and her team looked at data for 1,189 women who had gone through natural menopause or surgical menopause, in which their ovaries were removed, to test the impact of HSDD on women's health and well-being. All of the women, who ranged in age from 30 to 70 years, were in a stable relationship for at least 3 months.

Among women who underwent natural menopause, 6.6 percent met the criteria for HSDD, while 12.5 percent of women who had surgical menopause met the criteria.

Women considered to have HSDD were less satisfied with their home life and their emotional and physical relationship with their sexual partner, and were also more likely to be depressed, the researchers found.

They were also about twice as likely to have back pain, fatigue, problems with memory, and depression.

The women with HSDD scored lower on several measures of health-related quality of life including mental health, vitality, social function and bodily pain.

Overall, the researchers conclude that their findings "suggest that HSDD represents a significant and clinically relevant problem."

Heart Month?

I'd like to stick to Cupid and chocolate this month a lot more than spending the remaining days of February listening to PSAs like the one from Women in Government.

Ladies, and gentlemen, it just isn't cholesterol or cholesterol drugs that benefit your heart.

I'm not sure when y'all are going to get this concept but I do hope it's sooner, rather than later.

In my syndicated natural health column this month I gave a list of supplement tips for heart health. Nothing on the list closely simulated a statin.

My colleague of many years, AKA the People's Chemist, and several other colleagues and I have been speaking loudly for years against these drugs.

Here's one of those opinions -
Researchers Document the Dangers of Statins Byron Richards, CCN

A new scientific review of the dangers of statin medications is the first official paper to shed light on what I have been saying for years. It reviews 900 studies on the adverse effects of statins. It shows beyond any doubt that statins are potent disrupters of normal energy production by cells – meaning that the drugs are anti-life. It is technically not possible to have a drug that is anti-energy have any value in long term use. Yet, the statin machine rolls on, killing and injuring countless Americans.

The study is the first to connect the mitochondrial statin dots, a revelation that proves beyond any doubt that statins are too dangerous to consume for almost anyone. Serious side effects include loss of muscle function, cognitive loss, neuropathy, pancreatic and hepatic dysfunction, and sexual dysfunction. These side effects are worse in people with genetic susceptibility, in combination with other drugs, or in the presence of other energy related problems such as thyroid disease.

Side effects are worse with age and the new data clearly demonstrates that the risks for any person over the age of 70 far outweigh the benefits – even for patients with heart disease. This study lends further support to my observation that 450,000 new cases of heart failure per year are likely due to widespread statin use in older Americans.

Of course, you haven’t seen this information on the front page of any Big Pharma sponsored media.

And please don't eat that plant sterol margarine no matter what they tell you; real butter (unsalted) and high quality olive oil blended together by your hand at home is a much healthier spread.

Why A High Protein Meal Plan?

Weight loss and diet plans have become a full-fledged
industry today. As people become more and more health
conscious, they are looking for better and more effective
ways of losing extra weight and getting into shape.

Another addition to the many available diet plans is the
high protein diet meal plan. This plan requires you to
increase the protein content in your diet. This diet plan is
the latest fad in the health world as it allows you to lose
and control your weight without starving yourself.

Protein diet is not the same as Atkins diet. Atkins diet
allows its followers to eat as many calories as they want to
and that diet often contains large amounts of fat. A protein
diet meal plan involves food items with high protein content
but with limited calories and fats.

The benefits of a high protein diet in weight loss have been
recently discovered. Researchers have found out that a diet
with high proteins and lesser carbohydrates helps our body
to burn calories at a much faster rate. This helps us lose
weight and burn the fat that's accumulated in our body.

Another benefit of following a protein diet is that it helps
us consume fewer calories. Studies have shown that people
who eat a meal with high protein content don't feel the need
to snack in between meals.

Recent studies show that we consume more calories when
presented with a large variety of food items. By avoiding
carbohydrates and preferring only proteins, we also limit
the variety of food items we can consume. Thus, it cuts the
calories we consume and helps us lose weight.

So what exactly is there in a protein diet meal plan? Well,
to cut a long story short, this meal plan excludes all the
starch and flour based food items like bread, sugar,
potatoes, etc. But you are allowed to eat protein food like
meat and poultry. You can eat light carbohydrates like green
vegetables but must avoid all types of complex
carbohydrates.

This diet plan requires you to eat small portions of protein
rich meals many times a day. You can decide the size of each
portion according to your requirement. But before trying out
this diet, you must remember that this diet is not for
everyone.

You must consult your doctor or dietitian before trying such
a diet plan, in fact before starting any diet plan. And if your doctor
approves it, you can start your diet plan and start losing those extra pounds.
