One of the hardest thing when you are trying to lose weight
is controlling your appetite. You can control your hunger
without turning to pills or chemicals that may harm your
body. When it comes to suppressants, you have to decide what
works best for you, either taking supplements or just the
natural ways. But supplements can be expensive.
Mother nature has provided a number of natural appetite
suppressants namely water, broth, green leafy vegetables,
pickles, and apples. So with these, you do not have to take
any supplements or pills to control your hunger. You should
always keep these foods within reach because you never know
when hunger bug will strike.
Simple drinking water. Water is an amazing substance. Your
body is 55 to 60 percent water, so this is a substance that
you constantly need to renew. But, water has other effects
as well. If you get hungry and it is not meal time, you will
often find that drinking an 8 ounce glass of water takes
away hunger. Wait 10 minutes after drinking the water before
eating anything. Most of the time, you will find that you do
not need to eat.
It is unfortunate that some people do not like drinking
water because it does so many great things for your body. If
so, organic vegetable broth is a food that could fill you
up. The body treats water as a liquid, but it treats broth
as a food. This means that broth satisfies your body's need
for food. Try chicken broth and you will only take in 20
calories!
Green leafy vegetables. Green leafy vegetables are the third
of our natural appetite suppressants. They have so few
calories that you do not even have to count them! In fact,
many of these can even be considered negative calorie foods
because it takes more energy for the body to digest the
vegetables than it is calories. If you are going to use
salad dressing, find a very low calorie dressing and use it
sparingly. You should not use more than 100 calories of
dressing on a big bowl of salad greens.

Pickles are not just for pregnant women anymore. It is
possible to eat an entire jar of these natural pickles and
consume only about 50 calories. You want to look for the
natural organic pickles found in health food stores or in
the health food section of your favorite grocer. And you can
eat an entire jar of pickles without feeling any guilt!
Apples. Apples are great natural appetite suppressants.
Apples may be the highest calorie food on this list, but
they are packed with fiber. An apple will fill you up for a
long time. They are also sweet, so when you crave for a
cookie, grab an apple instead.

The Best Food Sources Of Vitamin D
By Andrew Desjardins
The health advantages of vitamin D are well known. Vitamin D
is crucial in supporting the absorption and depositing of
calcium into our bones, ensuring that bone density and
strength is enhanced, to a large degree preventing diseases
of the bone. Are foods with vitamin D the most important
source of vitamin D?
The most important supply of vitamin D is our own bodies. It
is the only vitamin that is actually synthesized by our
bodies, but it needs sunlight to trigger the synthesizing
process - that is why it is sometimes called the sunshine
vitamin. In some geographic areas people can actually
experience a deficiency in vitamin D because a lack of
sunlight exposure. As a matter of fact, this lack of
sunshine, and the resulting lack of vitamin D, has been
linked to various diseases, including depression.
Foods with vitamin D are one way of supplementing our
bodies' vitamin D requirements.
There are actually not very many foods with natural vitamin
D sources in significant amounts. There are foods that have
been fortified with vitamin D, and these are a valuable
source, although in itself will probably not be sufficient.
The following are known as foods with vitamin D:
Mushrooms (especially Shiitake & Button): Probably the only
source of dietary vitamin D suitable for vegans, these
mushrooms have surprising amounts of vitamin D. They are
also rich in the B vitamins. If you purchase the dried
versions, make sure that you buy those that have been dried
in sunlight.
Mackerel, Salmon, Herring, Tuna, Sardines: - in fact, most
fatty fish that are also rich in Omega 3 fatty acids are
good sources of vitamin D. A portion of mackerel can
actually supply up to 90% of your required daily intake.
Sardines in particular are excellent sources of dietary
vitamin D.
Cod Liver oil: Cod liver oil was one of the first sources of
vitamin D used medicinally for children with rickets. It is
very rich in Vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids; one
tablespoon of oil a day is sufficient. Research has shown
that cod liver oil prevents osteoporosis as well.
Eggs: Although only containing small amounts, eggs are
another food source for the vitamin.
Liver and liver products are also foods with vitamin D.
Fortified foods with vitamin D: Milk is generally fortified
with vitamin D in the usa, with 98% of the milk supply
containing significant amounts of the vitamin. Read food
labels before making purchasing decisions, as orange juice,
pastries and margarine are routinely fortified as well.
Supplementing your vitamin D intake with vitamin supplements.
It is very important to have sufficient amounts of calcium
and magnesium along with vitamin D supplements.
The health advantages of Vitamin D are incontrovertible.
Most people should get enough of the vitamin with sunlight
synthesis and in their diets. Interestingly vitamin D is
stored in the fat cells for up to sixty days, so strictly
speaking you do not need to ingest vitamin D on a daily
basis. There are excellent reasons to make sure that you
have sufficient vitamin D levels in your system. Look after
your health!

Want To Build Muscle? Focus On The Right Muscle Building Diet
By Robert Harvard
When most people begin muscle building, they typically focus
on the exercises necessary to build muscle and reduce
body fat. However, the bodybuilding diet is the most
important aspect of the entire process. Without a proper
diet, those muscles you've worked so hard to build will be
covered over with a layer of fat, which goes against
everything a bodybuilder tries to do.
A bodybuilding diet isn't difficult to keep up, it just
takes a little discipline and know how. With a few tips and
a lot of self control, you could be well on your way to the
physique you've only dreamed about.
Split Up Your Meals
As we grew up, our parents usually taught us to eat three
meals a day. Those meals were to contain the four food
groups and they were generally large enough to keep us
satiated until the next meal came around. However, the more
you eat in one sitting, the more your body has to work to
digest it. Health experts now tell us to split up our meals
into four to six smaller meals, eaten throughout the day.
This, too, is what the bodybuilding diet entails. By
splitting up your meals into four to six smaller, more
manageable, meals each day, our metabolisms speed up,
enabling us to burn more fat than ever before.
Stay Away From Processed Food
When you begin your bodybuilding diet, you want to refrain
from anything that uses processed flour. Experienced
bodybuilders will tell you to stay to the outside perimeter
of the supermarket, where the dairy, meat, fruit, veggies
and bread are located. They will tell you to stay away from
the inside aisles of the supermarket, where all the chips,
and other processed foods are located. The simplest way to
keep to your bodybuilding diet is to tell yourself to keep
it natural. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and stay
away from anything laden with sugar; as this will turn into
fat in the long run.
Water, Water, Water
It can't be said enough. When beginning any bodybuilding
diet, you can't refrain from drinking lots of water. Water
flushes the fat and toxins from our body and also helps us
in fighting disease and illness. After all, we are seventy
percent water so we need to drink plenty of water if we hope
to stay healthy. A good rule is to drink a glass of water
before each meal, during each meal and once between meals.
This will keep you plenty hydrated and that's important,
especially when it comes to your bodybuilding diet.
If you stick to the above tips and work hard, you could
become a bodybuilder in no time. Remember, being a
bodybuilder doesn't just mean having big muscles, it also
means having low body fat. While working out will give you
the muscles you want, it's the bodybuilding diet that will
strip you of that fat so that those muscles, and all your
hard work, will finally be revealed.

A Muscle Building Diet - The Top 3 Components
By Stephen "the Body" Jones
There are 3 major things that go into a diet for those
wishing to build muscles: protein, carbohydrates and water.
Here are a few ideas on how to arrange your diet to include
the most necessary building blocks for muscles.
As we all know, water is required for life and some do not
take into consideration the effects on the muscles it has. A
doctor would recommend for a healthy adult to drink at least
64 ounces of water a day. If a person were to exercise more
than a half hour daily, it would be suggested that a minimum
of another 16 ounces be taken in to replace the lost fluids
from exercise.
Carbohydrates are off limits in many diets. But if you are
trying to build up muscles, they are have an essential
function. For someone who has a 2,000 calorie a day diet,
half of this should be from carbohydrates. If your diet is
more than 2,000 calories a day, the carbohydrate intake has
to be elevated as well so the energy required for exercise
is available and the muscles can be built up.
Your carbohydrate intake should be from foods like fruit,
potatoes and vegetables, and avoid sources that include
added sugars like fruit juices and sports drinks. The added
sugars will offer short bursts of energy and also normally
add fat that the body does not need. Your healthy
carbohydrates should come from bread, green vegetables,
colorful fruits and almost any type of noodle or pasta.
Your last half of daily caloric intake should come from
proteins. Some foods that are considered the healthiest
means of getting your intake includes baked chicken or
turkey as well as salmon or tuna in water. Do not take in
any fried foods, since they offer additional fats that you
do not need and this could cause fatigue of the muscles.
Since muscles have to break down and then rebuild, each of
these 3 components are needed in a diet. They can be changed
as needed due to special diet requirements or medical
conditions. However, if you do have a medical condition it
is best to consult your doctor before starting any diet.

8 Ways To Lose Weight Fast
Here are some ways to lose weight fast.
1 - Take everything one step at a time. Begin simply by paying more attention to what you are eating, slowly cutting back on the bad foods and implementing more healthy foods into your diet. Once you have this under control, the next step is to add exercise to your plan. If you do not like exercising, take this one step at a time as well by implementing only 15 to 30 minutes at a time, at first.
2 - Choose foods and activities that you enjoy. If you do activities that you get enjoyment out of, you will find them to be much more successful than trying to exercise in ways that you do not enjoy. The same goes for foods that you implement in your diet: Choosing foods that you enjoy will help you enjoy your diet rather than craving bad foods.
3 - Build muscle. You lose calories based on your weight. Muscles, surprisingly enough, burn calories more quickly than fat does, pound for pound. Work out with weights to build muscle and lose weight, and then allow your extra lean muscle mass to burn more calories for you on a long term basis.
4 - Reduce your carbohydrates. Do not cut your carbohydrates out completely, because your body needs carbohydrates for energy. Cut out some of the white breads and pastas from your diet, though, to cut down on the carbohydrates that you consume. What carbs you do need to eat, you can replace with whole wheat and brown carbs for better health.
5 - Set realistic, measurable and attainable goals. Put deadlines on your goals, making them measurable. Make them realistic by choosing goals that you know you can attain. Set long term and short term goals and you will more readily achieve your expectations regarding quick and healthy weight loss.
6 - Give up the bad stuff. It may surprise you how unhealthy it is to eat candy, cookies, cakes and other sweets, and to drink soda and sugar laden drinks. Cut these bad goodies out either completely, or at least 80% of the time and the pounds will shrink away without you having to do much else to make the weight loss happen.
7 - Have a suitable breakfast. Most of your calories should be consumed early on in the day, and breakfast is no exception. Eat a nice breakfast to give your metabolism a good foundation to run from for the remainder of the day.
8 - Control portions by leaving something behind. Make sure your portions are correct based on the actual serving size of your food, and then make sure not to clear your plate completely. Exercising portion control will give you better control over what you put into your body for easy and achievable weight loss.
Implement these tips one by one and in no time at all you will begin to see a significant difference in your weight.

Indian Food - The Misconceptions And Truths
By Rajeev Sinha
There are many myths and misconceptions about Indian food.
Lets just take a quick look at a few of them. This could be
interesting.
All Indian food is spicy: Though Indian cooking is hot and
spicier when compared with European or Western cooking,
there are lots of regions in India where the food is bland,
even sweet. In case you want to try something less-hot, go
taste some Gujarati dishes.
Gujarati cuisine has a touch of sweetness in almost all of
its dishes. Traditional South Indian cooking (except Andhra
Pradesh) is generally less-spicier than other regions in
India. Kashmiri cuisine also incorporates sweet tasting
dishes in its menu. So when someone tells you Indian cooking
is spicy, don't entirely believe them.
Most of Indian recipes are Vegetarian: Well, not entirely
true. While many sections of India are strictly vegetarian,
the array of non vegetarian food available in this part of
the world is immense.
Many of the Hindus while vegetarian have traversed to the
other side and there's a great population of non vegetarians
in India. Muslims and Christians in India also consume meat,
while Hindus do not eat them as they considered it sacred.
There is no variety in Indian cooking: Many, especially
foreigners and first time visitors to India, are of the
opinion that Indian food doesn't have so much of choices.
Indian cuisine is probably one of the most varied
food-culture on the planet!
This is actually a misconception around the world and even
in India. Chicken Tikka did not originate in India. It was
brought into India by the Mughals and has its origins in
Persia.
Indian food is all about Curry: Curry is something that was
again made popular by British-South Asian ethnic groups.
While Curry abroad may refer to a thick and spicy gravy
dish, India takes a different meaning altogether. In South
India, Curry may refer to a vegetable side-dish that is
often served with rice.
You will also find that in certain Indian regions, food is
served on a banana leaf or an areca nut leaf. These
traditions have been passed on to families since many
generations and many modern Indian continue to follow then
regardless of caste differences.

A List Of High Fiber Foods
By Beth Hoover
Fiber is a critical part of the diet. Ironically your body
isn't able to digest fiber so it passes right through your
body. Fiber food is necessary because it keeps your colonic
tract healthy and keeps your body regular.
Put simply, its main job is to scrub your guts. Here is a
high fiber food listing to help you get started with your
healthy lifestyle! You may also need to know that fiber can
help you control your blood sugar and can even lower your
cholesterol. Oh and it also releases poisons from your body.
Almonds
Cashews
Flax seeds
Garbanzo beans, well cooked
Kidney beans, well cooked
Lentils, red cooked
Lima beans, cooked 1 cup
Gooseberry
Elderberry

Try to add fiber to your diet steadily so that your body has
time to adapt to the rise in fiber content. Fiber has also
been shown to help with a weight loss plan, nevertheless, be
certain to talk with your health practitioner prior to
beginning any diet regimen or if you have got any illness
that may require less fiber. This is the best way to make
sure you stay healthy, especially since your physician knows
tons about you.

Addiction Trends Of The Last 30 Years
By Catherine Cosgrove
By definition, an addiction is described as being abnormally
tolerant or dependent on something that is psychologically
or physically habit-forming. Addictions come in many forms,
from substance abuse addiction to behavior addictions, all
of which may require intervention or professional treatment
to overcome. As addictions have changed and redeveloped over
time, programs have had to progressively change and modify
approaches as well. In fact, while addiction trends have
changed in the last three decades with some becoming more
problematic than others, more help is available for
overcoming addiction than ever before.
Though alcohol dependency has been a constant addiction
recognized for many years, in the mid-1970s, illicit drug
use and addiction peaked to a point almost rivaling that of
alcohol. Illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroine, and
marijuana were the primary source of drug addictions until
the 1990s. At this point, illicit drugs that were more
cheaply made and acquired, like meth, became a growing
trend.
Marijuana dependency and addiction is a source of interest
in both the medical and political sectors today. As more
states explore the legalization and government control of
marijuana for medical purposes and even recreational use,
the potential for marijuana use to peak and become as
problematic as alcohol addiction is possible.
While dependency on illicit drugs continues to be a problem
for some, prescription drug addiction has nearly
overshadowed illicit drugs in the last decade. Narcotic pain
relievers and stimulants top the list of prescription drug
addictions. In 2001, reports indicated that nearly 87
percent of prescription drug addicts were white. Some
reports also indicate prescription stimulates, such as those
used to treat ADHD, are primarily abused by people under the
age of 21. In addition to prescription drug addiction, over
the counter (OTC) drug addiction has seen a rise in the last
decade.
In addition to substance abuse, other addictions that are
behavior oriented have seen rises and falls as well. Some
behavior-based addictions that have existed for years have
only recently become recognized as genuine addictions
requiring intervention. For example, where gambling
addictions were once unacknowledged, 12-step programs for
gambling addicts are now as mainstream as AA. Similar
addictions, including sex addiction, have also seen an
increase in awareness. Certain addictions, like food
addictions, have less social stigma but have come into the
forefront as behavior addictions requiring modification
nonetheless.
For many, an addiction may stem largely from habitual
familiarity but many addictions are both psychological and
physiological. Those who struggle with addiction are bound
not only by the psychological habit but in many cases, a
physical addiction. Substances that cause the body to
respond to an absence, such as caffeine, nicotine, or an
opiate drug, make overcoming addiction that much more
difficult.
With an increase of studies pertaining to the psychological
and physical dependencies created by addiction, programs to
overcome addiction have improved as well. Programs to treat
addiction were once barbaric in some sense, ignoring the
psychological aspect of addiction. Today, programs that
focus on the individual and each aspect of their addiction
make it possible to overcome addiction once and for all.
Through various support and treatment programs that address
an individual's addiction in both traditional and
non-traditional methods, addiction recovery is becoming more
successful.
Addictions of all varieties have seen some resurgence in
different times but the core of addiction and the road to
recovery remain the same. People struggling with addiction
are often depressed and can see their life spiraling out of
control but feel too alone or ashamed to ask for help.
Oftentimes, denial is at the core of addiction, with those
suffering from addiction unable to acknowledge their
dependency. Those who are involved in an addict's life also
feel alone and afraid and may not know how to help.
Thankfully, as addiction at its core has remained virtually
unchanged, the influx of information available through the
Internet and the increase in public awareness and health
education curriculum has improved the way people can find
help. Additionally, this increase in information and
awareness has improved the way recovery and treatment
facilities are able to offer help. Treatment and recovery
centers exist for nearly all types of addictions, in nearly
every part of the country. Substance abuse hotlines and
mental health benefits through insurance companies have also
helped to facilitate addiction help. If you or a loved one
is struggling with addiction, the first step to recovery is
to ask for help.

The patient is the best historian
Medical education is a form of brainwashing, not too different than educating future lawyers. Most higher education is not far removed, because it is the major way, just as in the days of the Guilds, that a trade or profession was continued. Keeping the education process in a narrow perspective fosters the culture in that field, and perpetuates the lack of growth and change, new ideas, or new approaches.
One thing that used to be a Golden Rule in health care was the importance of listening to your patient. Today, this is not always possible because of the tight control of the bottom line over health care practices by administrators and insurers, as well as the pharmaceutical companies.
I listen to my clients and often hear them tell me of their frustration with doctors who look at a computer, not at them, and type while talking. Others just say that the doctor just doesn't listen. I another case the person has told me that the doctor forces her beliefs against natural treatment and makes this person feel demeaned. The complaints and horror stories fill a book.
This recent UPI article points to this concern, so perhaps you'll see some effort to begin listening to patients come around once again.

Physicians often misjudge patient beliefs
HERSHEY, Pa., July 28 (UPI) -- Doctors often guess wrong about their patients' health beliefs, U.S. researchers found.
Dr. Richard Street from Texas A&M University in College Station and Dr. Paul Haidet of Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey found patients' health beliefs differ from their physicians' perception of these beliefs, and suggest doctors pay more attention to what their patients have to say.
The study, published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, found physicians generally do not have a good understanding of patient's health beliefs, but their understanding is significantly better when patients more actively participate.
"If physicians had a better understanding of their patients' beliefs about health, they could address any misconceptions or differences of opinion they had with the patient regarding the nature, severity, and treatment of their illnesses as well as make treatment recommendations better suited to the patient's life circumstances," Street said in a statement. "Encouraging the patient to be more involved in the consultation by expressing their beliefs and concerns is one way physicians can gain this understanding."
Street, Haidet and colleagues analyzed 207 audio-recorded physician-patient consultations as well as surveys about the cause, treatment and other aspects of the patients health condition conducted by both physicians and patients after the consultation. Physicians were also asked about how they thought the patients responded.

Natural Health News: Health Concerns for Gulf Coast Residents
UPDATE: 25 August
UPDATE: 21 August
A new study has found a higher incidence of respiratory problems and chromosomal changes to white blood cells among fishermen who helped clean up a 2002 oil spill off the Spanish coast, providing a guide to potential flashpoints that may arise as federal scientists begin studying the long-term health of responders to this summer's Gulf of Mexico gusher. The exposed workers were examined two years after their contact with spilled oil, when "a greater proportion" of that group was found to still experience respiratory symptoms such as wheezing and nighttime shortness of breath, the study's authors wrote. Chromosomal abnormalities in white blood cells, considered a potential marker for heightened cancer risk, was also detected at higher rates in fishermen who regularly came in contact with oil during cleanup work.
UPDATE: 21 August
Oil Enters Food Chain: The recent discovery of trace amounts of oil in blue crab larvae has left experts forecasting dire news for the Gulf ecosystem. It’s evidence that the oil from the spill loosed from the Deepwater Horizon explosion has already begun working its way up the food chain — where it could be fatal to animals who ingest it. Newly Discovered Oil-Eating Microbe Flourishing in Gulf -
WASHINGTON (Aug. 24) -- A newly discovered type of oil-eating microbe is suddenly flourishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Scientists discovered the new microbe while studying the underwater dispersion of millions of gallons of oil spilled into the Gulf following the explosion of BP's Deepwater Horizon drilling rig.And the microbe works without significantly depleting oxygen in the water, researchers led by Terry Hazen at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif., reported Tuesday in the online journal Sciencexpress.Science / AAAS / APIn this image provide by the journal Science, microbes degrade oil, indicated by the circle of dashes, in the deepwater plume from the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, as documented in a study by Berkeley Lab researchers.
UPDATE: 3 August

Mushrooms for Your Health
It has been a very long time that I have had a love affair with mushrooms. I was very young the first time my father took me to Kennett Square on one of his mushroom buying drives.
The mushroom houses were long, dark buildings filled with trays of soil and all kinds of amazing mushrooms sprouting from that soil.
The mushrooms were packed in wooden baskets and we even purchased mushroom soil in bags to add to his gardens.
Over the years I've learned more and more about amazing fungi. Most recently I've become interested in the idea of using mushrooms for toxic remediation because of a video I watched a while back. This is related to my work with the Silver Valley Community Action Center, and a longtime goal of SVCRC to find a better way to do mine clean up than repositories.
I'll continue to be a mushroom lover, and a user of mushrooms for health. We offer very high quality medicinal mushrooms and these are the ones I have used to help many people with a variety of health concerns. Contact us FMI(see Mycelia and Beta-Glucan). We're pleased to supply your needs.
So you can follow up on mushrooms for health here's a sampling from Natural Health News -

Critical Humourism
I like humor. I like it so much that I have a web page devoted to corn. It even has its very own web jester (Yes, in deedy, our own Mr. CAB keeps us laughing with his funny jokes and oft times silly humor.)
Now I found something I think is humourous, although it may wax cynical in the minds of some.
However you find your own take on this whimsy, please understand that's all it is meant to be.
Searching: An interesting dichotomy
It’s interesting on several levels to me because Joe Mercola fancies himself as the health expert of the internet. Then, I remember when he first started out and was found looking over my main web site just about every day.
Now, I too am considered a formidable health expert by a high number of people around the world. I speak with many of them daily; many more contact me via my blogs, my newsletters and websites, phone, snail mail, and email.
Of course this keeps me pretty occupied, but I do make time for the necessary research I do for clients and for my publications.
Yes, I do sell products, and all profits go directly to our 501c3 tax-exempt, non-profit organization that keeps us on line, no matter which product or service you choose.
We haven’t sold out to what I like to refer to as ‘Wildwood Hucksterism’, especially when it comes to what’s really in that pink Himalayan salt.
Just remember that the pink salt is high in sodium, and fluoride, so it is easy to understand why our choice, Celtic salt, remains our choice, with 17% less sodium, no traces of fluoride, and its proven health benefits.
So maybe now you’ll switch, and bypass the fluoride too. We’ll be pleased to take your order, and we’ll even keep the light on…

Interconnectedness: Politics-Finance-Your Health

I sometimes think that everyone should think in the same way I do, but then that may not be a good thing. I'd at least like more people to be able to see things in the interconnected way things are and how the Wall Street fiasco, political maneuvering on the health bill, and the limited perspective on the outcomes of these things can directly effect your health.
Yes, I know that was a run-on sentence, but I'm ok with it. Just trying to make a point...
As I explained recently to someone in health care, I've been in health care all my life except for my first five years. I owe that to my father who was trying to brainwash me into being the next doctor in our family (we have lots of them, dating back to before the Civil War). It makes for an unusual childhood, but perhaps the pay off is the way I closely observe.
This foresight, or hindsight, or whatever sight led me to think about a few things and the following is what I ended up expressing.

Politics, Finance, and Your Health
In the late 70s I took a position of Executive Director at an urban tribal health center. There were a ton of problems, if not more. This health program was extremely important because it was the first funded under the Indian Self determination Act, PL 93-638.
With all the politics involved a traditional model of governance was established and the clinic continues to serve today. It also has been a model other tribes have used to develop improved health care delivery.
One day I came to work only to find a poster tacked to my office door; it was Wonder Woman.
I don’t usually like to write too much about politics or economics, but from time to time issues do arise that seem to have a close relationship to health.
In the past few days one or three have come to my attention that touch on issues related to health and to things that have been important to me for a very long time.
I don’t like war. And more of what I don’t like about it is the damage it does to not only our military, but other those serving in other countries, and to innocents.
Currently we are spending an obscene amount of money on war that is really getting us nothing, and moving us nowhere.

Open Secrets becomes very useful when looking at how the health reform bill came to pass, as it were, especially if you watched a recent Frontline program evaluating it.
Lawrence H. Summers was sworn in as the 71st Secretary of the Treasury in July 1999 after serving as Under Secretary for International Affairs and Deputy Secretary of the Treasury. From 1991 to 1993 he served as Chief Economist of the World Bank.
During his first stint in the Clinton administration he basically stopped progressive regulations that would have prevented the most recent problems with ‘bubbles’ and the Wall Street Bailout.
A very astute and erudite woman, Brooksley Born, tried to stop the derivatives mess when Summers was first at the Treasury Department.
He dismissed her to some dark basement of ineffective impact because she wanted strong regulations to halt the derivative nightmare of that time.
Subsequently, Summers again took aim at Born again - http://firedoglake.com/2010/04/09/brooksley-born-raises-an-important-question-but-answers-are-weak/
Another mention of this situation is recorded in a recent program on Bill Moyers Journal - http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/04162010/profile2.html
This is not unlike the work of Catherine Austin Fitts who questioned many concerns when she was at HUD.
As usual, the fast printing of money and the recent sell outs to the banksters comes close to the sell out to Big Insurance and PhRMA.
Much of this could certainly have been avoided it male egos weren’t so entrenched and fragile.
Now we’re about to get it again in the proverbial shorts because the real change we need in banking reform is just another watered down deal for citizens and another government handout to Wall Street.
http://www.campaignmoney.org/blog/2010/04/13/sen-mcconnell-takes-financial-industry-cash-opposes-financial-industry-reform
And we still have Summers, Geithner, and Bernanke. No real change!
Should we start panhandling for spare change?
Or do we need more ‘women of steel’?

The Top 10 Cause of Stress and How to Overcome Them
By Lester Sim
Stress in the workplace is becoming more common these days.
Among factors that contribute to workplace stress are
competition among employees, large workloads, negative work
attitudes, quality control, legal challenges, training, and
office politics. It is time for the management to be aware
of how serious stress levels are in their respective
departments and review the best Stress Management solutions
for its employees. Here are the top ten causes of stress as
described by The Global Business and Economic Round Table on
Addiction and Mental Health:
1. Lack of Control - It is vital to take into account the
opinion of workers on the ground before implementing a
new policy that could change their work orientation. If
workers are forced to accept change when they have no say at
all, they would feel that their voice is unimportant to the
management. View how employees respond to the ideas, and
consider any alternative that would create a win-win
situation for both parties rather than force-feeding
employees. Stress management is about having a productive
and effective work environment.
2. Lack of Communication - Two-way communication is always
the best method when it comes to conveying messages to all
workers. Hold a session on Employee Communication to
announce company profit, lost, revenue, future planning,
current situation, bonuses, etc. instead of using static
communication tools like memos all the time. Be open to
their suggestions. When this is successful, you will see
that everybody is proactive and contributing where
communication is concerned.
3. No Appreciation - When an employee shows better job
performance, or improves on attendance or in any other
aspects of job, sincere praise would greatly increase their
motivation and self-confidence. Small gifts on their
birthdays will also make them feel appreciated. Tell them
how much the company appreciates their service. Nothing
enlightens a busy day more than having a caring and
appreciative boss.
4. No Feedback, Good or Bad - Let the employees know if
they have been doing things right or if they need to improve
on some areas by providing professional feedback through
personalized reply. When they submit their work, or propose
some ideas to you, at least listen to them. Occasionally
employers may not even realize that some workers feel
ignored, stressed and in need of some attention.
5. Career and Job Ambiguity - Helplessness happens when
people are feeling uncertain about their jobs, especially
when rumors like salary delay, retrenchment, mergers, and
plant closing spreads. It is important to keep workers
informed about current situations despite the already
stressed situation.
6. Unclear Policies and No Sense of Direction - In order to
get employees to understand company policies, we must
encourage both passive and active two-way communication
through bulletins, group discussions and memos and ensure
that the message is clear to everybody. Distribute printouts
of guidelines to the relevant employees to reduce chaos in
the workplace. Also allow some time for employees to adjust
to any new situations.
7. Mistrust and Unfairness -Be careful of how you treat your
employees and try your best to be fair, unbiased and
balanced in your judgments. Keep an open-door policy with
employees to avoid misunderstanding, and to help find out
what people think about managerial decisions. Treat
everybody equally to build sense of trust between you and
the employees.
8. Pervasive Uncertainty - Reinforcing new policies may give
stress to employees as they may be used to the old style of
doing their job. To help them out, prepare detailed
instructions in black and white for everyone to refer to.
One good tip on reducing the stress is to train the
employees whenever there are new implementations in the
office, to provide the knowledge on the new policies.
9. Random Interruptions - Walk-ins, call-ins, ringing mobile
phones, and spontaneous, constant demands from managers and
supervisors always disturb employee focus on the job he's
doing and stresses him out. Proper allocation of time, work
distribution, and knowing how to handle busy situation can
reduce this stress.
10. Workload - Having too much to do, or too little to do
can also put stress on people. Managers must be aware of the
amount of work they are putting on everyone and help to
prioritize which task comes first. They should also know the
right number of people to hire. Divide work according to
each employee's expertise, and give training for those who
are lacking experience.
Stress management in the workplace is vital. Stress-related
illness like heart attack, insomnia, high blood pressure,
and mental problems are on the rise and can be the result of
not having proper stress management techniques in place.

New Health Bill and Tax Provisions
Tax Provisions in the Health Care Act
MARCH 22, 2010
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590), passed by Congress on Sunday, contains numerous tax provisions.
The Reconciliation Act of 2010 (H.R. 4872), which also passed the House on Sunday, contains many other tax items, including extending the general exclusion for reimbursements for medical care expenses under an employer-provided accident or health plan to any child of an employee who has not attained age 27 as of the end of the tax year and codifying the economic substance doctrine. The reconciliation bill has not yet passed the Senate.
Among the many tax provisions in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act are the following:

Allergy Sufferer? Why You Need An Air Purifier
By Owen Jones
There are various forms of air purifier systems, so it can
be difficult to know what someone means when they are talking
about air purifying. For instance, all air conditioning
units and most central heating systems have some form of air
purification built in. In deed, the air purification filters
in most split air conditioning units are very advanced. A
similar add-on unit can be purchased for most central
heating and central conditioning systems.
However, you may not require heating or cooling units, but
you may want a dedicated air purifier. Air purification
units can greatly increase your quality of life,
particularly if you suffer from an allergy or live with a
smoker or pets.
Air purifiers or air cleaners, as they are also identified,
clean the air of pollutants and foreign bodies. However,
some air purifiers are more advanced than others, so it is a
good idea to identify what you want to remove from your air
before you buy one.
This is because not all machines will take all kinds of
filters and not all filters will eliminate all pollutants.
Some will, but not all. So if you want to clean pollen out
of the air because you suffer from hay fever, check with the
dealer that the unit that you like, can do the job.
Air purifiers will greatly help allergy sufferers and some
people do not realize that they have an allergy. Some people
are allergic to pet hairs, or dog and or cat skin particles
or smoke or traffic pollutants like tyre rubber to speak
nothing of the exhaust fumes that none of us like. So, if
you live near a road or a factory, or keep a cat or a dog,
you live with a smoker or you suffer from hay fever, an air
purifier would most likely be beneficial to you.
How you do this is clearly up to you. If you have a central
air conditioning unit already, it is probably better for you
to install an air purification system near your blower. This
method is relatively cheap ($300 - $1,000), but it will
purify the air in the whole house.
If you live in a bedsit, a trailer or a caravan and it gets
hot where you live, a split air con system is probably
better for you, but if you just want to purify the air
immediately around you, then a portable air purifier will
suffice.
One word of caution though, many of the cheaper portable air
purifying units are worse than useless because they are
burning your electricity without giving you any benefit.
These cheap models do not have the power to purify large
volumes of air and they do not have filters that are capable
of blocking the allergens that trouble us.

Affordable Health Care
As we listen to the progaganda on health reform today remember that a worker in New Hampshire pays $8000 more than their Member of Congress for health insurance. They also have to pay a tax on it.
If you don't inderstand that this so-called "health reform" activity is more about payoffs to Big PhRMA and Big Insurance then you aren't on track with what is actually happening.
There is no change and there is no health reform.
Make sure you let your representatives know what you think!
