NOW Foods recalls whey products

WASHINGTON, July 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to drink Hardcore Energize Bullet or New Whey liquid products.

The FDA said it issued the warning because of suspected product tampering involving utility knife blades found in two containers, one in the United States and the other in Canada.

The drinks, sold in test tube-like vials, are manufactured by Protica Inc. of Whitehall, Pa., and sold in the United States and Canada.

Hardcore Energize Bullet liquid products were distributed in Canada in two flavors -- Blue Rage and Black Rush. The affected lots for the Blue Rage liquid product are 1961, 1962 and 1794. The affected lot for the Black Rush liquid product is 1963.

New Whey liquid products were distributed to various retail stores in two flavors -- New Whey Fruit Punch and New Whey Blue Raspberry. The affected lot number the New Whey Fruit Punch is 1960 and the lot number for New Whey Blue Raspberry is 1944.

NOW Foods recalls whey products

WASHINGTON, July 3 (UPI) -- NOW Foods is recalling products containing whey protein concentrate because of possible Salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.

The voluntary recall of 12 products and 29 lots is an extension of the recall being conducted by NOW supplier Plainview Milk Products Cooperative, FDA officials said in a release Friday.

The products being recalled include Strawberry Whey Protein, lot 1125277; Vanilla Whey Protein Economy, lot 1066010 and Vanilla Whey Protein with Glutamine, lot 1104205. Customers can return the products to the store where purchased for a full refund,

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.
